Below is the list of countries which offer citizenship through investment.
There are many citizenships by investment golden passport programs but below are my top picks. However, even my distilled list of investor citizenship program may confuse you on where to start your search. When picking a country for a second passport, some of the most important but general questions to ask yourself are these:
One of the easiest ways to begin your search is by picking a continent. Ask yourself if you want to stay in certain continent or country. However, to pick a particular country you have to consider many other factors. Picking a country without addressing the following issues is similar to writing an exam without studying. It simply won’t work. The reasons to consider differ per individual but whatever your reasons are, the below questions must be answered.
Questions to ask yourself before choosing a second golden passport home
What is the main major reason I need the second residence for? Do I want to relocate as soon as possible? Is the dual citizenship a plan B reserved for a rainy day? Is my business growing into that country or region e.g. Asia, Europe etc? Or am I doing this for the sake of my future generation and children (consider cost and strength of education) etc.
Is your long term plan to eventually be naturalised as a citizen of that country and if yes, how proficient are you with the language of that land? What level of language proficiency are you? Language may make it difficult even when naturalised to be become gainfully employed unless you have huge investment income to live from or you have a specialised skill. If the plan is to be naturalised, you need to also consider the processes, time frames and requirements in that country in naturalising there investors.
What are the tax laws of the destination country? This is important if you are seeking tax residency. Some of the G20 countries including the European Union Economic block have friendly tax regimes which are usually designed for tax residency of either natural persons or juristic persons. Ireland is one country popularly known for that with companies like Google headquarter there. Other countries favourable for such programs are Greece, Cyprus and Switzerland.
Back to my list countries taken across the globe from Asia, America and Europe with the top three programs being Cyprus, Greece and UAE (Dubai).
