Behind every beautiful home are beautiful curtains that allow air to circulate and also provide the best sunlight required in every home. Again behind that beautiful leather couch is a colourful pillow that enhances the beauty of that home. This was observation that turned into a passion and a passion that brought food to my table. This article will provide you with knowledge on how the business of interior décor can be started. Interior décor in my part covers curtains, table cloths, peg bags, food covers, pillow case covers, sit covers and throw overs.

The first part that I have to highlight is that this business is a low risk business and loses are less likely to occur. It sounds unbelievable but very true, don’t worry all will be explained below. In every business there is need for capital .The cost of running this business is not very high .The basic foundation of running this business is to have a sewing machine preferably an electrical one which is faster than a manual. There is need for space this however is not a big issue since the machine can be placed anywhere in one’s house since it does not occupy much space. In this case a manual sewing machine is not bad for a start. In order for this business to flourish there is need for high advertising that is to church members society and workmates. Viral marketing has worked for me.

Back to the issue of low risk. In this business I work as per order that is if a person needs curtains, pillows, cushions e.t.c ,the first step is to take measurements .It is not my duty to buy the material required but the duty of the customer .In the first stage my duty is to help the customer to choose the materials that is the colour combination and quality material. Every decision that is made is agreed upon that is between “MY KING’’ the customer and I the tailor. After all is gathered then I start my business.

Once the material has been gathered I then sew the stuff as per agreed designs. Charges in this business are done as per meter sown and I usually get my payments upon completion of the job. Time taken to complete tasks is basically dependent on the complexity of the designs. In some cases such as curtain hanging transport fee is required. The main reason why I love this business is that one can take it up even though working elsewhere. Sewing doesn’t really require much time and you can work at night and even weekends since you will be in the comfort of your own home.

There is need for training and there are a number of colleges that offer interior décor lessons in Zimbabwe .I personally believe if you want succeed in this business you need to have the passion and the right attitude. The duration of these courses is usually short. I believe this business is best suitable for ladies since they are the ones that follow trends of interior decorations.
