I love doing business in Zimbabwe. I love doing business in countries were the stock market is volatile and companies are shutting down. I love doing business in states were a week won’t pass without the press mentioning a company which is retrenching workers. I love countries where there is a lot of controversy and unrest. I love them because when you move beyond the worry and fear, you discover that areas of growth are actually more plentiful than they are during boom times. I love them because there are more opportunities than in countries where everything seems to be alright. In my opinion, these are the perfect opportunities for arbitraging. Every day I see new opportunities in Zimbabwe and the whole of southern Africa.
It is sad to hear of Banks and industrial companies closing because a lot of families will suffer joblessness – but on the other end of the divide lay endless possibilities to wealth and success. In a bad economy, you can step-on your competition. To use war as a metaphor, a lot of people became millionaires during times of war.
Marketing genius Jay Abraham mentioned that, “The main thing is that you can win easily…if you know how to benefit from bad times. Everyone else is dropping out of the race, and you’re seeing the checkered flag. You’re looking forward and everyone else is looking backwards.” You can take advantage of the fact that everyone is frightened, and you make a fortune.
